In honor of Global Asteroid Day, established by the U.N. in 2015, meet NASA’s Near-Earth Object Wide-field Survey Explorer (a.k.a. NASA's "Comet Hunter"), the mission designed to identify near-Earth and surrounding objects. Green dots represent near-Earth objects with grey dots reflecting “all other asteroids primarily in the main asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter” and yellow dots are comets – all slightly disconcerting given Mars and Jupiter are the planets nearest to Earth’s solar system. Yellow dots are comets.
