Today is Bastille Day -- also known as the National Day of France. In 1789, the dramatic Storming of the Bastille jump-started the French Revolution. For the decade that followed the French lived in fear, facing political turmoil resulting in the senseless loss of tens of thousands of lives including those of King Charles XVI and his wife Marie-Antoinette. Today, 4th of July-like celebrations are being held throughout France -- including the largest military parade in Europe replete with all the necessary patriotic accouterments -- fireworks, balls and concerts. Joyeux anniversaire, France!
