"If you set your goals ridiculously high and it's a failure, you will fail above everyone else's success." - James Cameron —
James Cameron's Avatar is a strange film. When it was released on this day 9 years ago it smashed box office records and drew huge crowds. The film made people re-think what was possible with visual effects, and drew many to repeat viewings. But, once the hype settled down and the film because available for home viewing, people stopped talking about it. Nobody references or quotes the film. The biggest, most successful film in the world, and the cultural impact it made was negligible at best. Sequels have been in the works for almost a decade now, and Disney's Animal Kingdom in Florida just opened their "Pandora - The World of Avatar" park. But at this point, does anybody still care?
