“For last year's words belong to last year's language, and next year's words await another voice. To make an end is to make a beginning.” — T.S. Eliot
Happy New Year’s Eve from theTUNDRA! The dropping of the Times Square Ball has been a New Year tradition since 1907, with more than one million people watching as the ball descends, bidding farewell to the departing year and welcoming the next twelve months. The Times Square Ball’s design has evolved over the decades to reflect the times — this year’s ball is a geodesic sphere illuminated by more than 32,000 light emitting diodes, weighing nearly six tons. An event organized by the Times Square Alliance and Countdown Entertainment, the Times Square Ball Drop has inspired countless imitations, with dozens of other cities across the world adapting this very American tradition to welcome the new year — though none compare to the original.
