Put on your red, white and blue and celebrate Memorial Day! This national holiday pays special tribute to the men and women of all five branches of the United States military who lost their lives in service of our country. In 1971, Congress standardized the holiday as "Memorial Day" and changed its observance. While less than half of one-percent of the U.S. population makes up the active military, the tremendous sacrifices made by these individuals manifests itself every single day as we enjoy the freedoms of our daily lives. To all of the veterans and active military members of the Army, Navy, Marines, Coast Guard, and Air Force — theTUNDRA salutes you!
“Our servicemen and women are serving throughout the world as guardians of peace — many of them away from their homes, their friends and their families." —
U.S. President John F. Kennedy
