covers the Montreal Canadians for 0:19 the hockey writers and he hosts a 0:21 podcast called TS unfiltered check that 0:23 out and I'm joined by Brooke LEF Ferno 0:25 who covers the Chicago Blackhawks for 0:27 the hockey writers so we'll start with 0:29 you Brook how are you doing and an 0:31 icebreaker ask all our first time guests 0:33 is what what a what age what point did 0:35 you realize you're more likely to be 0:37 writing about hockey and Sports in 0:38 general than playing 0:40 it I'm doing great um I'm excited to be 0:43 here and as far as the Blackhawks go I 0:47 think it was I always knew I was a good 0:49 writer and I always knew I like Taki 0:51 because I grew up around it and stuff 0:53 but I it was probably around High School 0:56 when the Blackhawks won their uh second 0:59 state cup um against the Boston Bruins 1:02 in 2013 that's when I Really Got U more 1:05 into it and more interested especially 1:07 with the personalities they had on the 1:08 team at the time was just really fun to 1:09 watch and really engaging so and I could 1:13 never be an athlete I never was an 1:14 athlete I tried I just I'm not good at 1:16 sports but I love watching sports and I 1:19 always go by what the movie gree says 1:21 about if you can't be an athlete then be 1:22 an athletic supporter so that's what I 1:24 am and I love what I do yeah 20 2013 1:27 those were good times in Chicago oh the 1:30 Blackhawk so Blain uh how are you doing 1:33 and uh same question uh what age what 1:36 point did you realize you're more likely 1:37 be writing about hockey than playing 1:39 it uh I'm doing pretty good um 1:44 and when did I realize well I was about 1:47 16 about 500 years ago realized I wasn't 1:50 good enough to uh to really make a 1:53 career out of it so I took a Hiatus for 1:56 about 400 years and started writing 1:58 about eight years ago with 2:00 another site when I met up with a group 2:02 in uh Florida for the NHL draft and I've 2:05 been doing ever since yeah it's great 2:08 mentioning 400 years ago I guess you uh 2:10 you remember when the NHL was founded 2:12 back in the day back in 2:15 1917 well let's put it this way I 2:17 remember the Canadians dynasty of the 2:20 70s yeah that's that's a that's a while 2:23 back for uh for some of us but we're 2:25 going to talk about teams that are 2:26 starting to build their dynasties with 2:28 the uh NHL draft I guess you could say 2:31 it all starts in the draft what I love 2:33 about the NHL is that there's no one way 2:36 you can build a championship caliber 2:38 team whereas you look at basketball 2:41 where you have the number one pick and 2:42 you draft the generational Talent or 2:44 even football you have like C if you 2:46 could draft a generational quarterback 2:47 change your Dynamics and the NHL you 2:49 can't just draft your way to the top 2:51 there's development curve there's free 2:54 agency there's just team bu all these 2:55 team building aspects but we just 2:57 completed the draft and we're and I kind 3:01 of want to look at this from a different 3:03 angle where the dra the dust is settled 3:07 we knew who was going to go one and who 3:09 which teams won the draft which teams I 3:12 guess you could say like it's really 3:13 concerning how they did in the draft so 3:16 the way I want to look at the winners of 3:17 the draft is which teams really change 3:20 their timeline where you look at them 3:22 now and you're like they can really one 3:24 contend even next season or be a playoff 3:26 team next season or even a team that was 3:28 on the borderline and 3:30 leap into that contention or two a team 3:32 that part two of this is a team that is 3:35 going to be a d a really good team a 3:37 juggernaut team you look at this draft 3:39 that really helped our cause I'll start 3:41 with Blaine what which team are you 3:43 looking at which teams that really stood 3:44 out to you with this in 3:46 mind um I'm not a big fan of calling 3:49 winners and losers you know like based 3:51 on other teams uh performances it's more 3:56 the way I see it it's more did that team 3:59 get with they needed or did that team 4:01 completely fail at filling any needs and 4:05 I think the biggest in my opinion the 4:07 biggest winner at the draft and it had 4:09 less to do with the picks but more to do 4:12 with the moves they made is Utah they 4:14 went out and got themselves a top pair 4:16 uh in two trades and then they got Tia 4:19 GNA with their first pick so to me 4:23 that's a 4:25 win yeah it does it does seem that way 4:28 where it's like it also seems I think 4:30 you could take a step back and say the 4:32 way Utah's building now or the way 4:35 they're operating is a lot different 4:37 just because new ownership group and 4:39 obviously the whole situation with 4:41 Arizona that how that unraveled and now 4:43 it's a new era where Ryan Smith as an 4:46 owner saying I'm I'm I'm not going to do 4:50 this rebuild real too long or I want to 4:53 sell seats right away and you're 4:55 starting to see an aggressive owner try 4:57 to make these moves and I mean Bill 5:00 Armstrong's been there so he's kind of 5:01 coming in from his per from his 5:03 perspective I guess it's also he he's 5:06 saying like we've done this rebuild for 5:08 a bit now I want to accelerate it I 5:10 guess I guess I'm kind of wondering on 5:11 that if uh you're if you have if you had 5:14 take do you think this is more of the 5:15 ownership group saying I want Ryan Smith 5:17 the owner saying I want to accelerate 5:20 the timeline or is Bill Armstrong who's 5:22 been around for a while saying like 5:24 we've done the rebuild already now we're 5:26 ready to take the next step which where 5:28 do you see this coming from because they 5:30 have they have really been 5:31 aggressive yeah it's an ownership group 5:34 that has money to spend and is willing 5:36 to spend it uh I don't think they had 5:38 that in Arizona now they they show up in 5:40 Utah uh the ownership group wants to put 5:42 on a good show and they've put to 5:45 they've added pieces to that former 5:48 coyotes team that I think will make it a 5:51 a significant Contender at least to 5:54 compete for a playoff spot so the fans 5:56 in Utah at least will get a good show 5:59 yeah I guess Brooke before we dive into 6:00 your winner like what are you quick 6:02 thoughts on uh Utah how they've done 6:04 because it it has been different from 6:06 how they've operated in the past I mean 6:08 it's either a that I me you could either 6:10 see it as they're accelerating their 6:12 their timeline because Bill Armstrong 6:14 already had the the coyotes already had 6:16 the pieces in place and now it's like we 6:18 just need those next steps or be it's uh 6:20 a little bit of an owner who's like I'm 6:21 I'm ready to I want to sell seats I want 6:23 to compete now what your quick thoughts 6:25 on Utah before I guess dive into a 6:27 winner unless they were your winner 6:29 really like what Utah has done and it's 6:31 kind of disappointing because I think 6:33 this action that they've done actually 6:34 in the past couple days is actually what 6:36 Arizona deserved I think the coyotes 6:39 actually deserved and now they're 6:41 finally getting it unfortunately it's 6:42 coming at the expense of a different 6:43 location but it's still good to see I 6:45 always thought Arizona was actually on 6:47 the right track as far as their team 6:49 goes they had a lot of good talent they 6:51 were a tough match up for the Blackhawks 6:53 last year but technically a lot of teams 6:54 most teams were a tough match up for the 6:56 Blackhawks last year but um I really 6:58 like what they're doing though they're 7:00 being aggressive and honestly kudos to 7:02 the management because being a sports 7:04 owner you have to be aggressive you 7:05 should be aggressive this is pro sports 7:07 you should do it so I'm really happy to 7:09 see it and actually I was gonna say they 7:11 Utah was probably on my list of I think 7:13 one of the winners just because of how 7:15 aggressive they've been and I love to 7:16 see it I think it's great for the game 7:18 yeah I mean it is it is it's gonna be 7:20 frust I guess you could say it's two 7:22 it's two sides where Utah is gonna get 7:23 if they get a competitive team it's 7:25 going to be frustrating for all those 7:26 cootes fans had to sit through the 7:28 rebuild for all those years lose their 7:30 team and then immediately see it do well 7:32 elsewhere I mean you see a lot of 7:34 relocation stories like that I mean the 7:36 Browns losing the Ravens a like just a 7:39 cross Sports reference uh or even Quebec 7:43 uh the Colorado Avalanche their first 7:45 year in Colorado after leaving Quebec 7:47 City they win the Stanley Cup I don't 7:50 see Utah doing that but it is yeah it's 7:54 a it is it is interesting it's going to 7:56 be an interesting question especially if 7:58 they become competitive but Brook uh if 8:00 you had any other teams on your mind uh 8:02 for winners losers uh uh if you have any 8:05 let's hear I mean I guess I'll point out 8:08 my team first because I'm a Blackhawks 8:10 writer but I think there was like some 8:13 there was like some points where I was 8:15 like I was kind of wary about what they 8:17 did in the sense of maybe I'm just not 8:19 as educated obviously as the NHL Scouts 8:21 were but they did pick the players that 8:24 honestly they like they like speed they 8:27 like athleticism um they like strength 8:29 and obviously lately they've been liking 8:31 size so obviously they got John mustard 8:33 they got that Sasha B um and obviously 8:36 even they got arum leof with the second 8:38 overall pick so I would say they're they 8:41 picked exactly how you would expect them 8:43 to Pick And that's pretty good I think 8:45 to have that expectation of knowing what 8:47 they like and they stick to that plan so 8:49 I'll say for them they did a pretty good 8:50 job and hopefully it works out for them 8:52 down the road um 8:54 but yeah and I was talking to Blaine 8:57 before the show and I was like Montreal 8:59 my hats off to Montreal I do think they 9:01 probably had the best night on night one 9:04 when they got demid off and paage so I 9:07 mean hard to disagree there yeah I mean 9:10 well yes let's talk I mean with the 9:12 black with Chicago the Blackhawks it was 9:14 uh John mustard as player I think we all 9:16 wanted our team secretly to draft just 9:18 to have some some extra mustard on our 9:20 def on our on our team but uh yeah let's 9:23 talk about sh about the Canadians a bit 9:25 because that was actually one of the 9:26 teams I was thinking back in my head 9:28 entering this draft 9:30 I was thinking this team is one like 9:33 Elite not NE not necessarily Superstar 9:36 but one core player away from being like 9:39 we're there we have all the pieces in 9:41 place we're ready to take that next step 9:43 and I think Burma taking a step back 9:46 with Montreal it's Marty s's been a 9:49 promising coach he's done a lot he's 9:51 he's done well with the rebuild the 9:54 expectations are starting to change a 9:55 bit especially the way slavkovsky came 9:58 on the scene last year especially with 10:01 you have Cole Coffield you have Nick 10:02 Suzuki Kirby Doc is going to come back 10:04 he's the former Blackhawk we got traded 10:06 it's one of those trades it's a win- win 10:07 trade sort of thing they have all the 10:09 pieces now there's like they just need 10:11 that one Superstar or one really just 10:14 one core player left and I kind of want 10:16 to wonder Blain uh covering the 10:18 Canadians what how do you feel they did 10:20 in this draft 10:21 because uh one of the star players one 10:24 of the elite prospects in this class 10:26 fell to them at five 10:29 well I I do believe that any successful 10:32 uh rebuild takes a little bit of luck 10:35 and in this case Montreal was lucky to 10:37 have demidov slide to fifth so they can 10:40 pick him uh I think you're right the 10:42 Canadians really did need uh that that 10:45 star power that because I think demidov 10:48 is he's a game-breaking player he'll 10:52 lift you out of your seat but with one 10:54 shot he'll change the outcome of a game 10:57 so they were missing that so they got it 10:59 so um you add you add Michael ha to that 11:03 uh to that mix you add uh a little bit 11:06 of Montreal Canadians royalty by picking 11:08 kvu uh his father being the former 11:11 captain of the team uh and the rest of 11:14 the the rest of the draft I think they 11:16 did fairly well uh they were the goal 11:19 was to bring in skill but with size and 11:23 I think they hit that with all of it 11:25 because the 11:26 Canadians over the last 30 some odd 11:29 years have been plagued as a smaller 11:32 team now under Hughes they're much 11:35 larger they're much more skilled and I 11:38 think the you're right the expectations 11:40 are changed it's no longer did this 11:43 individual player improve but now it's 11:46 will the team 11:48 improve I mean yeah absolutely I here 11:52 here's a team that I had off the radar a 11:55 bit which I think is one of the teams 11:57 that I was like I like what they did 11:59 here in a sense is the Minnesota Wild 12:03 where one of you can make an argument 12:05 that the player they took in the first 12:07 round was a top five Prospect or even 12:09 certainly top 10 who slid to them at 12 12:12 they traded they made the move to get 12:13 him and then you just you look at their 12:15 draft 12:17 overall is they went out and got defense 12:21 and addressed defense they I think used 12:23 uh three or four selections on that 12:26 position and with the wild thought about 12:29 it is their weakness when you look at 12:32 their they have they have the skill in 12:34 the forward position with 12:36 pza with Matsu gell they have they have 12:39 the skill forward possession they just 12:41 needed some extra reinforcements to go 12:43 along with Brock Faber you add bam right 12:46 Z bam one of these Elite defensemen who 12:49 could really really or already him he 12:52 changed the Dynamics and then you add 12:55 extra reinforcements you're really just 12:57 Shoring up that unit and I'll start with 13:00 Brooke what do you think like their 13:01 division rival what do you think how do 13:03 you think they how do you what do you 13:05 think of their draft how they uh how 13:07 they went out and just really fixed that 13:09 I would say fixed one unit it's going to 13:11 take time but there for them to go out 13:13 and address a need that they have yeah I 13:17 would say I mean Minnesota like you 13:18 said's always been a very um Fierce 13:20 competitor to the Blackhawks a fierce 13:22 rival too and actually I I think you're 13:25 right because I actually thought of 13:26 Minnesota in the back of my head too 13:27 when I saw that they traded um with 13:29 Philadelphia I was like uh oh where is 13:31 this going and then I was actually when 13:34 I saw that they picked uh Z I was like 13:36 actually Brock Faber and zeve like maybe 13:39 in the future I was like that that's 13:41 kind of nice um so I mean like I said I 13:44 actually cats off to them they were 13:46 pretty aggressive in you know trading up 13:48 to get him when he wasn't even like you 13:49 said expected to fall in that spot so 13:52 yeah like I said I think they had a 13:53 pretty good night for sure yeah like he 13:55 fell into their lap uh yeah Blain I mean 13:58 any anything to that I mean it's just 13:59 seem I mean there that's for them it's 14:02 like a solid night I don't know if I 14:03 don't know if necessarily you think of 14:04 the wild for compared last season I 14:07 think for them was a bump in the road 14:09 type of season where they are a playoff 14:10 team to begin with but for them to make 14:13 this move I'm kind of wondering would 14:14 you say this this almost like puts them 14:16 in a different conversation or is it no 14:18 it's this just going to get them back to 14:19 the playoffs type of thing or what what 14:21 what does this class I mean it's more of 14:23 a long-term thing anyway but what how do 14:26 you what do you how do you see the way 14:28 they address the this draft especially 14:30 with defense uh changing things for them 14:32 if if at all well it looks to me like 14:35 more of a retool on the Fly and picking 14:37 up someone like buam uh to go with Brock 14:40 Faber uh now you have a one-two punch on 14:43 the left side that can feed the puck up 14:46 to 14:48 capriso I mean that's that's their 14:50 offense right there uh I think uh I 14:53 think Bill Garren's going to be able to 14:55 add a few more pieces here over the 14:57 summer and and I do feel like Minnesota 15:01 is going to be able to punch their way 15:02 back 15:03 in I mean I'm just wondering is that it 15:07 are they not maybe not next year but 15:09 maybe with this group coming into the 15:11 into the when they're ready and K off 15:14 still in his prime and they still have 15:16 that that the elite forward Talent still 15:18 there if that kind of change if they're 15:21 all of a sudden a cup team or they 15:22 they're still a few pieces away from 15:25 that I don't think they have all the 15:27 pieces they need to really be a 15:29 Contender uh do they have enough once 15:32 boam is in the league to you know make 15:35 the playoffs and see what happens I I 15:38 think that's more of where they're at 15:39 right now they they definitely need a 15:41 couple more pieces interesting because 15:43 like I'm just seeing it I'm like I feel 15:44 like they like they that that was their 15:47 need and then it's like okay they went 15:48 out and addressed and it's like wow it 15:50 really changes things for them because 15:51 you look at their defense last year with 15:52 like Brock Faber and everyone else and 15:55 now if you just have another especially 15:58 if if BMB becomes an elite 2A defenseman 16:01 Elite defenseman who takes um takes them 16:03 over top it really changes things I 16:05 guess let's let's shift gears real 16:06 quickly to some of the teams that I 16:08 guess are a little concerned or a you 16:10 want to say I want to call them losers 16:11 necessarily because especially when a 16:13 draft takes time but teams that it's 16:15 like okay I'm a little uh cautious about 16:18 what they did or a little concerned or 16:21 how they approach this draft or whe 16:22 whether they whiffed or whatever or just 16:24 their overall Outlook heading into the 16:25 draft or now following it what so which 16:30 teams uh stand out to you start with you 16:32 barook which team which team necessarily 16:35 uh are you thinking 16:36 about yeah like you said maybe not 16:39 necessarily losers but just some I 16:41 question let's put it that way like just 16:42 teams I question maybe I will say the 16:44 first team that came into my brain was 16:45 the Washington Capitals that was one 16:47 team I really questioned on night one 16:50 because I genuinely thought when it got 16:51 to them that they would probably pick 16:53 Cole eer I felt that felt like a gift 16:55 that he was even there and I heard that 16:57 there was that they might be defense 16:59 there but I think even the guy they 17:01 picked was shocked that he went there as 17:03 well that tck on Paras saac but like I 17:05 said hindsight's 5050 that guy might end 17:08 up actually being a steal but that was 17:09 just one that like I said he's probably 17:11 a great player and really happy for him 17:13 but I was just more surprised that they 17:14 went that rout let's put it that way and 17:17 also and also the Flyers that was the 17:19 other team that stood out to me I would 17:21 say it's just being kind of confused by 17:23 what they were doing yeah it was also uh 17:26 Cole Eisman was the other player that 17:27 kept sliding so you're surprised that uh 17:30 the capitals didn't take him the 17:31 capitals also are one of the teams that 17:32 you wonder what direction they're 17:34 heading in because you feel like they 17:36 maybe need a rebuild then it's like then 17:38 they make moves that reflect they're not 17:40 going to do that in general it's one of 17:42 those teams you got to figure out what's 17:44 going on uh but yeah it's one of those 17:47 teams uh bling any anything to add on 17:48 the capitals for flyers or if you have a 17:51 team that you you want you were thinking 17:53 about before that that kind of got into 17:55 your head now uh because of the capitals 17:57 or or Flyers coming up 18:00 well I agree with the Flyers it was a 18:01 bit uh confusing I mean getting jet 18:04 luchan luchenko good player and trading 18:08 back to get him to get another asset 18:10 great uh but I don't know it just seemed 18:13 a 18:14 little unexpected I do know that they 18:16 needed centers so he addressed the need 18:19 Washington um the way I see it they're 18:23 doing everything they can to give oetkin 18:26 the opportunity to try and break 18:27 Gretzky's record so they're just holding 18:30 on uh with the uh Paras parac pick I 18:34 think that's really good it's 105 or 18:36 110o player uh at 17th why not but uh 18:42 the one team that really really had me 18:45 confused was the Toronto map Leafs and 18:47 I'm not just saying this because I cover 18:49 the 18:50 Canadians the moves they made during 18:53 this this draft made no sense to me 18:57 moving trading back to pick up more 18:59 assets that made sense but picking up 19:02 Danforth who prospect that they could 19:04 have had in the second round anyway and 19:06 they pick them up late in the first I 19:09 know they need defenseman but there were 19:11 other defenseman that were rated higher 19:14 so I don't know what uh what the leaf 19:16 saw in 19:18 him but it had to be something good yeah 19:22 I mean it's also like if you're going to 19:24 take if you're going to take him why not 19:25 just wait later to get him if you feel 19:28 like he's going to be available I that's 19:29 also one of the questions maybe they 19:31 knew something that like we don't where 19:33 it's like oh the league is higher on a 19:35 player than we also then than we than we 19:40 are we're on our draft boards but yeah 19:42 it it it is it is interesting I mean and 19:46 also for Toronto where I mean trade 19:49 trading back I mean they're one of those 19:50 teams that I guess tra tra they usually 19:52 are the team that trades out of the 19:53 first round it's like their thing but uh 19:57 but yeah like I mean it is interesting 19:59 to see like I mean they're in that case 20:01 where how do we keep making moves to 20:03 keep us in that contending window while 20:05 also resetting and it's it is going to 20:07 be interesting to see how how they uh 20:10 how they develop how I mean how they 20:12 tackle that dilemma or how they tackle 20:15 that especially with the draft which 20:17 just happened uh so I like what they did 20:21 getting TV's rights yeah but they have 20:24 to sign them to make it worthwhile uh 20:27 they desperately need that defenseman to 20:30 actually try and help this team be able 20:32 to get past the first round um for a 20:35 team that's supposedly a cup Contender 20:38 um show me a team that could actually 20:41 contend like that they haven't shown 20:43 that yet when you're up 3-1 to the 20:46 Canadians who are clearly a lesser team 20:49 and the Habs just walk over you that's a 20:53 problem yeah that was uh yeah a few 20:55 years back the tan of you know the tan 20:57 of deal which they're going to 21:00 presumably resign him it just uh 21:02 actually good way to shift gears a bit 21:05 but it just talking about the tanov deal 21:08 I first thought of it I was like oh this 21:10 is great like tanov veteran who improved 21:13 the Stars defense and he's great he 21:14 played well in the playoffs and you're 21:17 getting him and it's a type of deal 21:19 Maple made and then I thought about him 21:20 like this is kind of like the Geodon 21:22 move just a few years younger it just 21:24 feels like they're repeated it's almost 21:26 like it's interesting because like the 21:27 maple Le said they're not going to 21:28 repeat the same things or not going to 21:30 go through the same motions and then the 21:32 tan of deal does feel like it's a 21:34 geordano move just a few years earlier 21:37 and it just feels like they're going 21:38 through the same Cycles except for 21:39 change the head coach and uh the new 21:42 management technically but it just feels 21:44 that that way a bit I guess uh anyone um 21:47 bla if you have quick thoughts and then 21:49 we'll have and then up 21:52 yeah um no you you pretty much covered 21:55 it I mean I'm just I'm still scratching 21:57 my head at the leaf so uh yeah go ahead 22:01 Brooke I don't really have any thoughts 22:03 either I like I said I think the Leafs 22:05 are always just they're doing something 22:07 and like I said we'll see if it works 22:08 out I like some of the moves they make 22:10 so we'll see but I really don't have 22:12 anything to add yeah I mean that's the 22:15 so with Chris can of it reminds me of 22:18 the um Let's do let's kind of with 22:19 shifting gears a bit uh with some of the 22:22 moves that already happened which is 22:23 like we're heading into free agency by 22:25 the time this uh By the time anyone 22:27 who's watching this but actually watches 22:29 this there might be a lot more moves 22:30 that have a lot more significance but 22:34 let's do a quick uh let's do quick fire 22:36 in this quick fire what I I'll do is 22:38 I'll mention the trade first sentence 22:40 that comes to mind on the trade and just 22:42 quickly one sentence on the deal and 22:45 what you think of it so I'll start with 22:47 uh I'll start with you Blain Jake gensel 22:50 traded from the Hurricanes to the Tampa 22:53 light in a vacuum that's a good trade 22:55 for 22:57 Tampa uh Brooke quick uh quickly Jake 23:00 gensel traded from the Hurricanes to the 23:03 lightning um that was a good last ditch 23:06 effort trade to try to keep the window 23:07 open 23:09 I yeah uh uh my my quick quick sentence 23:13 is uh the lightning are still doing that 23:16 thing with the lightning like keeping 23:18 that keeping that competitive window 23:21 open uh yeah that's pretty much uh I got 23:25 let's quickly um Tanner Jano to the 23:27 Kings Brooke 23:30 uh okay I guess doesn't feel like a 23:33 doesn't feel like much do feel like it's 23:37 yeah dep flare moving really it's the 23:40 vacuum I mean really it's the bra 23:42 picture lightning open up cap space 23:44 Blaine quick Qui tannerin o Kings any 23:47 anything a win for Tampa Bay I think uh 23:50 they were able to get rid of uh a 23:53 contract that they no longer need and 23:57 they sucker La into taking 23:59 it yeah uh speaking of La trades uh Pier 24:03 Luke DUIs to Washington 24:06 Brooke I am confusion I I I hope it 24:10 works out for pier Luke dubba in 24:14 Washington yeah uh Blain quickly Pi du 24:17 uh traded from the Kings to the capitals that long drafted by Columbus goes to 24:47 Winnipeg goes to LA and then just one 24:49 year after signing an eight-year deal 24:51 he's already in Washington and at this 24:53 point you really yeah anyway enough of 24:55 that uh so this one's relevant because 24:59 uh for blae Jonathan kovich traded from 25:01 the Canadians to the Devils quick 25:04 thoughts um it's good asset management 25:07 by uh by Hughes he use a waiver pickup 25:09 and they end up with a fourth round pick 25:11 uh it's also a good move for kovich 25:14 who's going to join a good team and 25:16 actually provide solid play on a third 25:20 pair Brook kovas savich uh now on the 25:23 Devils uh I'll take Blaine's word for it 25:26 because I honestly do not know enough 25:27 about him to comment either 25:29 way yeah my quick thought when I saw it 25:32 was Montreal must be real confident in 25:35 the defensive core that's coming up 25:38 which I mean I guess like real quickly 25:39 Blain if you uh can confirm there oh 25:42 yeah yeah there's Montreal's defensive 25:45 prospects are probably the deepest in 25:47 the entire NHL there's uh there's quite 25:49 a few on the way up right now and uh 25:53 just on the right side 25:55 reinbacher uh Mayu 25:58 they've got right- handy right-handed 26:01 defenseman coming up who were clearly 26:03 higher on this on the the depth 26:06 chart that was the first thing I was 26:09 thinking about is I mean sure it helps 26:11 the devils and they did need this type 26:13 they did need to improve their defense 26:14 but yeah that's because like usually you 26:16 don't think of kov seage type player 26:19 that team that a team would trade away 26:20 especially if the're Canadians but what 26:22 this says to me is really they have the 26:23 confidence that they're young core 26:25 that's coming up so I guess that's uh 26:28 pretty much all we got so before we head 26:30 out uh let's do any plugs that either of 26:33 you have we'll start with uh you
