"We are more fulfilled when we are involved in something bigger than ourselves." — John Glenn

The Everyday Enthusiast John Glenn

"We are more fulfilled when we are involved in something bigger than ourselves." — John Glenn

Astronaut John Glenn became the first American to orbit the Earth 58 years ago today, piloting the Friendship 7 spacecraft three times around our planet in less than five hours. John Glenn’s life was dedicated to service to country — after his tenures as a Marine pilot and NASA astronaut, Glenn spent four terms representing his home state of Ohio as a United States Senator. In October 1998, Glenn made history again, boarding the space shuttle Discovery at the age of 77, becoming the oldest person to enter space. In 2012, Glenn was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom, a fitting cap to a distinguished career of public service.
