For those unfamiliar with Ferrari World, it’s basically the Disneyland of Italian car making, featuring roller coasters and other rides that simulate the thrill of getting behind the wheel of a Ferrari racer or road car. Opened in 2010, the attractions run the gamut from extreme racing simulations to family fun. But recently, Ferrari World has teamed up with the Museo Ferrari in Maranello, giving visitors a taste of the history behind the legendary brand.
The Women and Ferraris exhibit, or “Il Rosso & Il Rossa,” will shine a much-needed spotlight on the role of women in the Ferrari legacy. All the vehicles on display are owned by women who have either raced or driven Ferraris, with the goal of highlighting their contributions to the global powerhouse brand. These cars include the Ferrari La Ferrari, the 166 Berlinetta, and the 458 Challenge, among others. Can’t book a last-minute flight to the United Arab Emirates? Not a problem, since the exhibit will be up for a year.
One of the exhibit’s more historical selections is a car owned by Yvonne Simon, a French driver who competed at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1950 and 1951. Driving the Ferrari 166 Berlinetta, Simon and her teammate Betty Haig were the last women to enter in Le Mans until fellow Frenchwoman Marie-Claude Beaumont debuted two decades later.
And if all of that isn’t enough to entice lure you out to the Middle East, the Women and Ferraris exhibit has one more big-ticket item to show off – a Ferrari owned by none other than Queen Bey herself, Beyoncé Knowles. So it seems like this “Untold Story” has its fair share of unexpected twists, and with Ferrari celebrating their historic 75th anniversary this year, it’s the perfect time to showcase the diverse heritage of one of racing’s greatest marques.
