Who doesn’t love driving down airport runways? Koenigsegg

What if, when you were growing up and getting dropped off at school by your parents, they didn’t bring in a boring old mini-van but a brand-new German supercar capable of doing 0-60 in 1.9 seconds? You’d still be a little embarrassed when your mom used her thumb to wipe smudged lipstick off your cheek, but there’s absolutely no doubt that your friends would be impressed.

What if we told you that you could give such an experience to your children. Well, if you’ve got just $1.7 million laying around come 2023, you’ll be able to buy the Koenigsegg Gemera.

If everyone wears a racing suit and helmet they’ll be fine. Koenigsegg

Koenigsegg is advertising this as the world’s first “Mega GT”, saying that the Gemera, “seats four large adults comfortably with space catering to their carry-on luggage, meaning the Koenigsegg megacar experience can be shared with family and friends.”

We’re not entirely sure what they mean by “large adults” or “carry-on luggage” (the Swedes are not normally this vague), but looking at photos of the interior, we’re pretty sure you will want to stick to average height/weight and a half-full fanny pack to play it safe. Kids will fit with no problem as long as they don’t mind sitting very still. And what kids don’t love the quiet pleasures of stillness?

The cup holders probably won’t fit a Super Big Gulp. Koenigsegg

It’s also environmentally friendly what with it being a hybrid. Its new Tiny Friendly Giant engine is attached to their patented Koenigsegg Direct Drive with a whopping 800v battery – most EVs over the last few years have had 400v batteries. The Gemera is supposedly able to get up to 31 miles in just EV mode, and then another 590 miles in hybrid mode. This places its total range at around 621miles. That’s not bad, it might not get you all the way to the Grand Canyon, but it will get you to the soccer field and back a few times.

If all the roads you live near are razor straight then you’re set. Koenigsegg

But enough about boring fuel economy, let’s talk SPEED. As mentioned earlier this little family carriage can get to 60 in under two-seconds, and we’re reading the below chart correctly around a max speed of 220 mph. Its engine produces a maximum of 1750 horsepower. That’s mind boggling. The Bugatti Veyron with its 12V engine produces a 1000.

Picture it, you’re circling that Ikea parking lot and you see the perfect spot right by the exit just opened up, and there’s a Ferrari F12 sitting on the other side of the lot revving its engine because it sees it too… your Tiny Friendly Giant will definitely have your back. Literally, because when you gun your back will fuse to the upholstery.

We can also talk about how the Gemera’s assisted driving mechanism and electronic stability control will keep you and yours safe at supersonic speeds. But, honestly, we think our kids should be scared witless by the time they get to Karate practice. It’ll build character.
