USA Pickleball Championships Triples Down on Atlantic City

Pickleball players from across North America have converged on Atlantic City this weekend for the 2023 USA Pickleball National Indoor National Championships. This year marks the tournament’s third anniversary and the largest indoor-sanctioned pickleball tournament in the Mid-Atlantic region. The Atlantic City tournament being played September 20-23, will award $50,000 in prize money as 612 players compete in pro, amateur, junior, and para-athlete divisions.
Professional pickleball player Kyle Yates, who won gold in last year’s Pro Doubles and Pro Mixed Doubles and took silver in Pro Singles, returns to compete and serve as tournament ambassador. The tournament moves to Atlantic City after a two-year run in Birmingham, Alabama.
Golden Tickets Up For Grabs
In addition to prize money, trophies, and bragging rights, Gold medal winners in each division receive a Golden Ticket, which earns them a guaranteed spot in the 2024 USA Pickleball National Championship
The USA Pickleball National Indoor Championship is being held at the Atlantic City Convention Center, converting the site’s mammoth 500,000 square feet into 42 pickleball courts. This year, players will compete on new state-of-the-art, cushioned Pop Up pickleball courts from Pickleball United The “True Courts” are the official Rollout Court partner of USA Pickleball and feature a textured non-skid playing surface that is forgiving on athletes’ knees and joints.
Play Format
All main draw matches will be played as best of two out of three games to 11, win by two. The winners of each match advance in the main draw with losers playing in the consolation bracket in single-game elimination to 15, win by two.
The Main Draw winner will play the Consolation Bracket winner for the gold in a best-two-of-three, win-by-two match. If the match results in the Main Draw winner’s first loss, an additional game will be played to 15, win by two, to crown the champion.
In addition to the open, professional tournament, Atlantic City will crown champions in various age and skill brackets, including players 19+, 30+, 40+, 50+, 55+, 60+, 65, 70+, 75+, and 80+competing in 3.0, 3.5, 4.0, 4.5, and 5.0 skill levels.
