00:05
many many years ago I was a dancer when
00:08
I did interior designing for about 18
00:11
years my parents both were marvelous
00:15
stars my brother became a designer for
00:18
Disney Studios and my sister is a great
00:21
artist so then when I went through all
00:24
my different careers I figured I may as
00:27
well paint we were in LA we went to king
00:39
baby which is a big primarily men's
00:41
jewelry and and I just started looking
00:43
at some of it and thought I can make
00:45
this my husband is a guy that loves to
00:47
wear jewelry and I started making
00:49
jewelry for him and then I just started
00:51
learning what I liked I worked in
00:53
information technology and I've been
00:56
retired so for about a year now I've
00:58
been working with Ford's I still am
01:00
working full time work in IT and this is
01:02
my site visit I was a commercial artist
01:05
for about ten years
01:06
dealt with deadlines all the time that
01:09
wasn't too keen on that so I thought if
01:11
I'm ever gonna make something out of
01:13
myself I might as well go off on my own
01:15
so I quit all that and started my own
01:16
business doing this and I've been doing
01:19
this now for 44 years
01:22
the dancers bodies are so magnificent
01:25
whenever I paint one it sells
01:27
immediately I am not a creative person
01:29
or I always thought I was not a creative
01:31
person so I started doing this and my
01:34
son's that are nine years old twins they
01:36
help me out and one of them did this
01:38
with some creative painting and you said
01:41
blast I like to have a variety of art so
01:45
that it can reach a wider range of
01:47
people this is one board started like
01:49
this I use a variety of tools I use a
01:52
jigsaw use a rotary Carver wood-burning
01:55
tools paints and stains and drills and
01:58
needles to sew the leather handle
02:01
actually on to first it's really brought
02:06
that creativity really back you know I
02:10
mean I'm a hair stylist and that's what
02:12
I've been doing since I got out of high
02:14
school but this is a different aspect of
02:16
the creativity that I just feel so
02:18
inspired the fact that I'm able to sell
02:21
it that people enjoy it is just icing on
02:23
the cake well I've always always told
02:25
that I should go and do it business
02:27
major in college and all this stuff but
02:29
I had this love for art work I was not
02:33
an artistic kid at all but I found that
02:35
using the right side of your brain is
02:37
very therapeutic and it's very working
02:39
in a left frame field like I did an IT I
02:42
really needed some sort of an outlet
02:43
it's been really inspirational to find a
02:46
second career and it doesn't always have
02:49
to happen in your 20s you know it can
02:50
happen at any stage of life just to be
02:52
inspired by what you're doing
02:56
you

The 24th Annual Balboa Island Artwalk in Newport Beach was held on Sunday, May 20, 2018. More than 100 local artisans showcased their paintings, sculptures, textiles, jewelry and all-around extraordinary crafts in an environment that - despite the overcast weather - was stunning in its own right. Lots of inspiration here...
