Balboa Island Artwalk

00:05 many many years ago I was a dancer when 00:08 I did interior designing for about 18 00:11 years my parents both were marvelous 00:15 stars my brother became a designer for 00:18 Disney Studios and my sister is a great 00:21 artist so then when I went through all 00:24 my different careers I figured I may as 00:27 well paint we were in LA we went to king 00:39 baby which is a big primarily men's 00:41 jewelry and and I just started looking 00:43 at some of it and thought I can make 00:45 this my husband is a guy that loves to 00:47 wear jewelry and I started making 00:49 jewelry for him and then I just started 00:51 learning what I liked I worked in 00:53 information technology and I've been 00:56 retired so for about a year now I've 00:58 been working with Ford's I still am 01:00 working full time work in IT and this is 01:02 my site visit I was a commercial artist 01:05 for about ten years 01:06 dealt with deadlines all the time that 01:09 wasn't too keen on that so I thought if 01:11 I'm ever gonna make something out of 01:13 myself I might as well go off on my own 01:15 so I quit all that and started my own 01:16 business doing this and I've been doing 01:19 this now for 44 years 01:22 the dancers bodies are so magnificent 01:25 whenever I paint one it sells 01:27 immediately I am not a creative person 01:29 or I always thought I was not a creative 01:31 person so I started doing this and my 01:34 son's that are nine years old twins they 01:36 help me out and one of them did this 01:38 with some creative painting and you said 01:41 blast I like to have a variety of art so 01:45 that it can reach a wider range of 01:47 people this is one board started like 01:49 this I use a variety of tools I use a 01:52 jigsaw use a rotary Carver wood-burning 01:55 tools paints and stains and drills and 01:58 needles to sew the leather handle 02:01 actually on to first it's really brought 02:06 that creativity really back you know I 02:10 mean I'm a hair stylist and that's what 02:12 I've been doing since I got out of high 02:14 school but this is a different aspect of 02:16 the creativity that I just feel so 02:18 inspired the fact that I'm able to sell 02:21 it that people enjoy it is just icing on 02:23 the cake well I've always always told 02:25 that I should go and do it business 02:27 major in college and all this stuff but 02:29 I had this love for art work I was not 02:33 an artistic kid at all but I found that 02:35 using the right side of your brain is 02:37 very therapeutic and it's very working 02:39 in a left frame field like I did an IT I 02:42 really needed some sort of an outlet 02:43 it's been really inspirational to find a 02:46 second career and it doesn't always have 02:49 to happen in your 20s you know it can 02:50 happen at any stage of life just to be 02:52 inspired by what you're doing 02:56 you

The 24th Annual Balboa Island Artwalk in Newport Beach was held on Sunday, May 20, 2018. More than 100 local artisans showcased their paintings, sculptures, textiles, jewelry and all-around extraordinary crafts in an environment that - despite the overcast weather - was stunning in its own right. Lots of inspiration here...
