0:00 I do see a close relationship between 0:03 sports and our national life and I 0:05 sometimes wonder whether those of us who 0:07 love sports have done as much as we 0:09 should in maintaining Sports as a 0:11 constructive part of this country's 0:13 existence Excellence emerges from Mass 0:15 participation I believe that as a nation 0:18 we should set a goal to emphasize this 0:21 most important part of life the 0:23 opportunity to exercise to participate 0:26 in physical activity and generally to 0:28 produce a standard of for our country 0:31 which will give us a nation of vigorous 0:33 men and women to improve on a broad 0:35 level the health and vitality of all of 0:37 our people to help establish more 0:40 programs for participation by American 0:42 boys and girls by Americans young and 0:45 old I do not suggest that we should 0:47 permit cultural and intellectual values 0:50 to be diminished but I do suggest that 0:53 physical health and vitality constitute 0:56 want to be we have at 1:23 least eight person from every state in 1:25 the Union except for North Dakota we'll 1:27 work on that for next year but 49 of the 1:29 50 states are represented thousands of 1:31 people here competing usap is the 1:33 governing body of pickleball so our 1:36 mission really is to grow and support 1:37 pickle ball certainly the rules the 1:40 equipment standards and making sure that 1:42 that all gets taken care of we want to 1:44 support this sport the support is 1:46 growing it is exploding as everybody 1:48 knows and hears part of our job is to 1:50 make sure that we name is Stu Stu Upson Interview 3:09 Upson and I'm one of the co-founders of 3:11 PBX pickleball and currently a strategic 3:13 advisor to the organization PBX is a 3:15 great concept because there are so many 3:18 great retired athletes from other sports 3:20 who are now discovering pickleball so 3:22 the mission of PBX is to give those 3:24 athletes an opportunity to compete and 3:27 also an opportunity for fans of those 3:29 athletes to watch them play perhaps even 3:31 play with them in proam events so it's a 3:34 great situation where the athletes and 3:36 the fans can mingle and they're brought 3:37 together through the sport of fle ball 3:39 the thing that PBX fle ball does 3:41 differently than other fle ball tours or 3:43 entities is it's an opportunity to bring 3:46 sports fans who are not necessarily fans 3:50 of pickleball or even engaged with f 3:52 ball it gives them the opportunity to do 3:54 so so they might be a fan of Tino 3:56 Martinez or of Rick Barry or of Brad 3:59 Penny they might want to come see them 4:01 play and then therefore they will learn 4:04 to understand the game of fle ball and 4:06 want to play themselves it's a really 4:08 interesting Dynamic when the pros are 4:09 out there competing because yeah they're 4:11 they're having a good time they're 4:13 having fun but you know they're really 4:15 is that element of competition still in 4:17 their blood and there's some trash 4:19 talking which is probably the most 4:21 entertaining part of it all of the 4:23 numbers you hear about the growth of 4:25 pickle ball play they're real and it's 4:27 all from the amateur players the pro 4:29 players the super competitive players 4:31 they're great but it's really folks who 4:33 are playing in their local park or even 4:35 in their driveway there's so many new 4:37 indoor and outdoor facilities popping up 4:39 that's where the growth of the sport is 4:41 and that's true and that's going to keep 4:42 going there's nothing to indicate that 4:44 it's going to slow down if you could Marvel Characters 4:46 play pickle ball with any Marvel 4:47 character who would it be and why oh 4:49 would definitely be 6:38 across the country everywhere from 6:39 Florida out to Arizona California 6:42 Colorado uh the Midwest really it's 6:44 wherever we could find the right real 6:45 estate deals and then in the right 6:46 pickle ball Enthusiast to to bring our 6:48 concept indoor pickleball clubs that 6:49 will have anywhere between 14 and 18 6:51 courts I not only believe that indoor is 6:54 a necessary part of the game I think 6:55 it's it's a absolute requirement for the 6:56 growth of the game specifically because 6:58 of the fact that you can control for the 7:00 conditions most of the country you can 7:01 really only play pickle ball at most 7:03 four or five months out of the year so 7:05 what we're creating is an environment 7:06 where you're having the ability to play 7:07 year round and really practice your 7:09 craft we actually think that pickleball 7:10 is very similar to basketball and 7:12 volleyball and that it's a lot of fun to 7:14 play Outdoors if the conditions are 7:15 get better at really quickly 12:17 the age doesn't matter sex doesn't 12:18 matter you just you can go out there and 12:20 you can play with it's a welcoming group 12:22 if you anybody that's uh
