On National Author’s Day, theTUNDRA salutes the most published writer of all time — William Shakespeare. With an estimated four billion copies of his works in circulation, there are almost enough prints of the Bard of Avon’s oeuvre for every person on the planet. A prolific writer, Shakespeare is credited with 39 plays, 154 sonnets and possibly even more literature since it is assumed that some of Shakespeare’s works have been lost over time. Despite working on behalf of the Royal Family as writer and part-owner of the immensely popular playing company called the King's Men, much of Shakespeare’s personal life is shrouded in mystery.
“All the world ‘s a stage, and all the men and women merely players. They have their exits and their entrances; And one man in his time plays many parts.” —
William Shakespeare (“As You Like It”, Act II, Scene VII)
