Twelve years ago today, veteran pilot Captain Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger performed the miracle of landing a U.S. Airways Airbus with 155 passengers onboard on the Hudson River after a flock of geese flew into one of the Airbus’ engines, causing a full-blown engine failure. All 155 passengers survived the unprecedented ordeal, thanks to Captain Sullenberger’s graceful water landing, averting a tragic disaster of epic proportion. The accident was just the beginning of Captain Sullenberger’s journey, as a federal investigation was triggered, questioning his role in the event. Ultimately, Captain Sullenberger was vindicated, and 10 years later the incident is known as the “Miracle on the Hudson”.
“We need to try to do the right thing every time, to perform at our best, because we never know which moment in our lives we’ll be judged on.” —
