The winners of the annual Sony World Photography Awards have just been announced online in all four categories: Professional, Open, Student and Youth. The top Photographer of the Year 2021 prize which includes $25,000 was awarded to Craig Easton for his series titled Bank Top documenting the misrepresentation of the tight-knit communities in Blackburn, Northern England, a town that has had the reputation of being one of the most segregated in Britain. The portraits break down stereotypes presented by media and powerfully portray the human histories and challenges these communities have faced together.
"What we actually found was a place of congregation -- where people have come together from all over the world, for many decades, and created a community that is settled and vibrant, and continues to welcome new arrivals in solidarity." —
