Today is National Go Fishing Day — the perfect excuse to grab your fishing rod and head out on the water. More people are fishing in the United States than ever before, according to an Outdoor Industry Association report that revealed more than 49 million Americans are fishing across the country. The report builds on a long-term U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service study showing fishing is at its highest popularity level since the survey began in 1955, despite the increasingly digitally-driven nature of society. Fishing has been on an upward trend since 2006, with participation increases among children and teens, bolstering a critical demographic for the continuation of the sport.
“Many men go fishing all of their lives without knowing that it is not fish they are after.” —
Henry David Thoreau
