May the 4th Be With You! Star Wars Day, observed annually on May 4, celebrates the groundbreaking Star Wars film series. Following the adventures of young Jedi Luke Skywalker, the first Star Wars film debuted in 1977 — and despite the endless “special editions”, the original release is the definitive version according to Sci-Fi Enthusiasts. George Lucas’ series was instantly a bona-fide pop culture phenomenon, spawning sequels, video games, comic books, and every kind of merchandise in the galaxy. After finishing the original trilogy in 1983, Lucas returned to the franchise fifteen years later, sparking the childhood imagination of a new generation with a new series of films set chronologically before the original 1977 film.
