Today would have been the 90th birthday of "The King of Cool, Steve McQueen, one of the top box-office draws during the 1960s and 1970s. McQueen is best known for portraying complicated antihero roles in adrenaline-pumping action films like “Bullitt” (1968) and “The Great Escape” (1963). An Academy Award-nominated actor, McQueen was Hollywood’s highest-paid actor during the year 1974. Dubbed the “Mona Lisa of Mustangs”, the original screen-used 1968 Ford Mustang GT from “Bullitt” set records at the world’s largest collector car auction this past January at Mecum Kissimmee 2020, breaking expectations and selling for $3.74 million.
