Greek-American author and businesswoman Arianna Huffington launched her popular news aggregator and blog The Huffington Post on this day in 2005. An international best-selling author, Huffington is a prominent media figure, often placing on Time Magazine’s yearly list of The World’s 100 Most Influential People. The Huffington Post quickly became one of the most trafficked sites for political commentary, garnering the interest of online service provider AOL, which purchased the platform for $315 million in 2011. Five years later, Huffington stepped down from her eponymous site to focus on wellness company Thrive Global, her latest venture.
