Global hats-off to the reigning Queen of the United Kingdom, Elizabeth II, who turns 95 today after recently mourning the passing of her husband, Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. Today is Elizabeth II’s real birthday, although technically she has two celebrations annually. Since the 1748 reign of King George II, the U.K. has hosted the Monarch’s official public celebration on the second Saturday of June annually when Britain’s typically rainy weather is less likely. Beginning her reign at just 25 years old, Elizabeth II is the longest-serving British monarch in history, rapidly approaching her planned Platinum Jubilee in 2022, celebrating the 70th anniversary of her ascension to the throne.
“The upward course of a nation's history is due in the long run to the soundness of heart of its average men and women.” —
